Case Study: Architect Coalition

In 2023, a coalition of architects, engineers, and design professionals were tired of Ottawa’s reputation as the ‘city that fun forgot.’ They believed that through a few key changes in how the municipal government approaches its procurement processes, they could unlock a new level of architectural creativity and innovation that would transform Ottawa into the world-class capital city it deserves to be.

To support the coalition’s vision, Blackbird developed and implemented a comprehensive government relations and strategic communications approach that effectively reached key policymakers at City Hall while building broad public awareness and support for the coalition’s objectives. Blackbird helped the coalition tap into key urban design-oriented community groups by maintaining an engaging social media presence, and leveraged connections with local news outlets to ensure the coalition’s perspectives were reflected in the media.

Through Blackbird’s support, the coalition has been able to build several strong, working relationships with key city councillors who continue to champion their ideas within municipal government. At the same time, the coalition has reached thousands of voters with their message, helping to build a grassroots movement of supporters who are demanding change in how the City of Ottawa builds for the future.
